Energy Award Nomination On March 27th, 2009, the Alliance to Save Energy in Washington, D.C. announced that John Kypreos, President of Tri-State Window Factory Corp. was one of the nominees for its 2009 Stars of Energy Efficiency Award. These prestigious awards honor those who have demonstrated an outstanding and tangible commitment to the cause of energy efficiency The winners of the awards will be honored at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. on September 17th, 2009 at the 17th Annual Evening with the Stars of Energy Efficiency Awards Dinner. The dinner will welcome over 500 invited guests, including prominent members of Congress, CEOs, White House and other Administration officials, staff from federal agencies, and members of the press corp. The Alliance to Save Energy promotes energy efficiency worldwide to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment and greater energy security. Founded in 1977, the Alliance to Save Energy is a nonprofit coalition of business, government, environmental and consumer leaders. Judging criteria included the evaluation of the degree to which the nominee demonstrated an outstanding and/or unique contribution to energy efficiency beyond that which is normally expected and the degree to which the nominees actions can be replicated and serve as a model for others in the industry. Also being judged were the innovation and creativity of the nominee, the scope of his/her contribution, and the leadership of the nominee in his/her field. John Kypreos was specifically cited for his whole-hearted embrace of the testing and certification program by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) on behalf of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency. This all-encompassing program was designed to establish uniform standards for testing the efficiency of windows. Strict independent laboratory testing was required, with the results audited by an independent certification and inspection agency. The resulting certified ratings are objective and uniform and can be relied upon by consumers evaluating the efficiency of windows. When Mr. Kypreos began the certification process, he decided from the outset to make the most energy efficient windows available in the market. He spared no expense in building his windows with only the best, most efficient parts and materials. Mr. Kypreos succeeded in building the most efficient windows that can be purchased in the U.S. He also redesigned his less expensive models so that they too were the most efficient windows in their categories. He was also cited for having all of his windows qualify for the tax credit created by President Obamas Stimulus Bill (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) in February with u-factors and SHGC ratings of 0.30 or less. While there was turmoil in the window industry as manufacturers scrambled to improve their windows to meet these strict standards, Tri-State Window Factorys windows had all met these standards for several years. In fact, many of Tri-States windows are 100% more efficient than the stringent standards of the Stimulus Act. Mr. Kypreos was also cited in his nomination for his personal commitment to energy efficiency when he purchased a new state-of-the-art factory. Not only is the whole assembly line computerized to save energy, reduce waste, and improve quality, but the windows in the entire building, including the factory, were replaced with Tri-States high performance, energy efficient triple-pane windows. Mr. Kypreos was nominated for being an industry leader and an individual totally committed to energy efficiency. It is quite an accomplishment for an owner of a Long Island small business to be nominated for such a prestigious award at the national level.
